Three thoughts on Browns General Manager Andrew Berry’s pre-NFL Draft press conference the other day:
*The most worthless press conference of the NFL calendar year is the pre-draft one. To the surprise of absolutely no one, general managers don’t say much in these settings because they want to keep everything close to the vest. So, the information that is given out is pretty much useless. And when the GM talking is the Browns’ Andrew Berry, the information is worse than useless,
if there is such a thing. It’s just irritating.Berry never says anything of any value. You learn nothing about the team by listening to what he has to say. That’s a disservice to the fans and also to media members. It’s a waste of everyone’s time. It would be better for everybody involved if these things were just canceled forever. Everybody the other day headlined the fact that Berry called Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter “a unicorn.” That’s hardly news. People have been calling him that for the better part of two years. Perhaps Barry could wax poetic on the career of former Browns running back Jim Brown, calling him “a great player.” Yikes.

*The question that should’ve been asked, but never was, was if Berry was serious when he said in Colorado after the workout of Hunter and quarterback Shadeur Sanders that he would like to have both of them. I would like to see the Browns trade back up in the first round and get the quarterback they want. That would be the kind of bold move needed to shake the Browns out of the doldrums.
*So many people refer to the fact that the Browns want value in all of their picks. That’s not a newsflash, either, because every team wants that. But what Barry needs to realize is that they need to get players who come in here and impact the team tremendously right away. His job and that of head coach Kevin Stefanski are on the line because of last year’s 3-14 nightmare. They had better forget the value stuff and try to do whatever possible to make this team appreciably better this coming season, or else they will be out of work.
