No surprise Myles Garrett turned down Browns offer

Should anyone really be surprised — even just a little bit — that defensive end Myles Garrett said thanks, but no thanks to buying into the Browns’ plans for retooling the team so that it can compete for a Super Bowl berth next season?

No, no, no, absolutely not!

Garrett is a smart guy, and so, then, his was a smart decision.

Do you believe that the Browns, who were 3-14 last season and looked bad doing it, can completely reverse their fortunes — 180 degrees so — in such a short time span?

That would be a difficult task for even the best general managers and head coaches in the NFL. But the Browns’ pair of Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski are at the other end of that spectrum. History tells us so with the way they have mishandled so many facets of the team since they were paired together in 2020, especially at quarterback, where their decisions, specifically with, but not limited to, the trade for Deshaun Watson, have been historically inept.

Quarterback is the most important position in team sports, so when you totally mess that up, you have absolutely no chance.

These guys aren’t going to magically change overnight and become competent.

Garrett knows that, as many of you do as well. That’s why he opted out.

Good — very good, in fact — for Myles Garrett.

And bad — very bad, in fact — for everyone who cares about this football team, for he is a sure-fire Pro Football Hall of Famer down the road and he still has some gas left in the tank. That he will likely expend that elsewhere is a crying shame, and the Browns will have nobody to blame but themselves for setting the stage for that to happen.
