As mentioned, all the negative publicity generated from the trade for quarterback Deshaun Watson is a good reason why the Browns aren’t hosting the NFL Draft again this year.
They did so last season, and it was a tremendous success, drawing huge crowds and providing a very positive picture of the community and the team.
But there’s another reason, albeit much less important, why it’s a positive they aren’t hosting the draft this year. It’s the fact that the Browns, after including in the deal their first-round pick this year, will not have a selection in the first 43 choices, and just one in the first 77, Their first choice is at No, 44 in the top one-third of the second round.
As such, then, there is almost no buzz nationally, and even very little locally, about the Browns’ draft. It’s almost like they’re not part of the draft, because they’re not part of the first round, the only portion of the event that matters to the mainstream fans, of whom there are many.
So while the rest of the league’s teams and their fans revel in the highlight of the draft’s biggest moments, the Browns and their followers would be quiet hosts, serving food and drinks and otherwise staying out of sight, and mind.
Embarrassing? Humiliating?
Yeah.
Just like the Watson effect.
Thank goodness it won’t play out like that in that the draft is not in Cleveland.. The Browns already have enough image problems.
