Let’s root for the former browns coaches today

The Browns have long since finished their season, but two of their former
head coaches have not.

New England head coach Bill Belichick, who had that same job with the
Browns from 1991-95, will guide his Patriots against the host Denver
Broncos this afternoon in the AFC Championship Game.

Arizona head coach Bruce Arians, who was an assistant coach in Cleveland
under Butch Davis from 2001-03, will take his Cardinals to Carolina this
evening to face the Panthers in the NFC Championship Game.

I like both men – yes, that includes Belichick, who is a completely
different person when you get him away from the lights, cameras and tape
recorders — and would love to see them face off in the Super Bowl in two
weeks. Arians should have been a head coach in this league a long time ago.

Seeing them both win today would give a nice Cleveland and Browns theme on
the NFL’s biggest stage. That will have to do until the Browns get there as
a team, which could take a while.

Plus I’d like to see Patriots quarterback Tom Brady get a shot to win yet
another Super Bowl. He’s so special, so very extraordinary. We’re seeing
something with him we may never see again – or at least for a while. I
don’t care to see gimpy-aired Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, clearly
at the end of his career, being an accessory piece in the Super Bowl.

I’d also like to see Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer, who only last
week won his first playoff game, get another one today and make it to the
Super Bowl. At this late stage of his career, he may never get another
chance. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton should have a lot more chances.

That’s who I WANT to win today.

But as far as who I THINK will win, that’s the Patriots and the Panthers. I
hope I’m half-wrong.
