Family Over First Downs: A Fourth of July Reminder
Happy Fourth of July!
We all spend a lot of time with pro football overall, and the Browns in particular.
Indeed, the NFL is a year-round entity. There is always something going on, even in this vacation period, as was detailed in this space the other day.
But today should not, and can not, be one of those days.
It is instead a day set aside to celebrate the 249th birthday of the greatest country in the history of the world, even with all of its warts. We should do so with the people closest to us, whether they be family members, friends, neighbors or others. Life is as short as it is precious. We are not meant to take the journey by ourselves. We need to do it in community. It’s so much better that way.
Football will always be there. Of that we can be sure. History tells us so.
But those individuals in your circle won’t always be there. Of that we can also be sure. History tells us so.
Make sure to let fireworks, family, friendships and fun tackle football for a loss on this day. We can get back to the X’s and O’s tomorrow.
Promise.
You won’t regret this quick — and pleasant — interruption to your year.
Promise, too, on that one.
