A little bit of this and a little bit of that:
*The Browns’ road game in Cincinnati against the Bengals, and their home game against the Miami Dolphins, were both flexed out of prime time back into the mainstream of the schedule. It’s the NFL’s way of saying, in particular to the Browns, “We changed our minds and now we don’t think you’re cool enough to eat at the adults’ table.” Like all teams, the Browns, of course, work hard to market themselves. But the team’s poor play has negated all that time, effort and money. How cost-efficient is that?
*Former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar oncetold me, and wisely so, “As a player gets older and the injuries start coming, they don’t stop. They just keep coming.” I thought of that when I watched Nick Chubb come up limping last Sunday, and then again when it was announced that he had suffered a broken foot and would miss the rest of the season. All that work to battle back from last year’s injuries, and now this, further clouding the future of not just the best Browns running back of the expansion era, by far, but also of one of the best backs in franchise history, and especially in the modern era. Jim Brown. Marion Motley. Leroy Kelly. Bobby Mitchell. Mike Pruitt. Greg Pruitt. Earnest Byner. Kevin Mack. Nick Chubb. Yeah, really.
