Johnny Manziel ceased to be a story months ago

You can’t make this stuff up.

You really can’t.

You could try, but you really wouldn’t be able to do it.

We talked a while ago about all the national media people suddenly coming around to the realizations that all of us in Northeast Ohio have known for months – that is, that Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is likely finished in pro football.

“I’d be shocked if anyone signed up for the Johnny Manziel experience,” Sports Illustrated Don Banks writes.

Wow, Don, did you come up with that all by yourself? You know you’re going way out on a limb, don’t you?

By the way, Don, are you also aware that Barack Obama is president, and that Halloween 2015 is over.

“Analysis” like that is an insult to everyone, including Browns fans. There are those in the media, and apparently Banks is one of them, who don’t think anything is news until they comment on it. You should expect more from a guy like Banks, who has been a good writer for a long time. Maybe he just had a bad day, like the Cavs did against the Washington Wizards on Sunday.

Manziel is not just yesterday’s news or even last month’s news, but rather last fall’s news. And even by then, it was stale, and so was he.

Browns head coach Hue Jackson is so sick and tired of talking about it – and him — in his short time in Cleveland that he’s ready to pull his hair out, if he had any hair. How much clearer does he have to be that the Browns are going to cut Manziel when free agency begins on March 9? No one in Cleveland will raise an eyebrow when that happens. Maybe they did it months and months ago, but not now.

It would be nice if Jackson were allowed to work on getting the Browns turned around without getting bogged down by all this incessant Manziel talk. No one in Browns history has done less and caused more controversy than Manziel.

But enough already. For the 100th time, we’re turning the page.

Hopefully, all of the national media guys will turn it with us.
