They are a long way off from where the Indians are, but Joe Buck seems to believe the Browns have a real chance to get there now that they have Hue Jackson.
The Fox play-by-play announcer, who is working the World Series between the Indians and Chicago Cubs but has also called NFL contests for the network for years, said during the Game 1 telecast on Tuesday night that “the Browns hired a good coach” in Jackson.
Whether Jackson is even aware of Buck’s comments is not known, but if they were to be pointed out to him, they might serve as music to his ears, particularly with the fact they were uttered before an audience of 18.72 million people, which is the largest for a Game 1 telecast since 2009.
It’s been an especially tough season thus far for the first-year head coach as he tries to get the Browns turned around, and it’s been even tougher this week as they hit a new low with a 31-17 drubbing – the game wasn’t that close at all – at the hands of his former team, the Cincinnati Bengals, last Sunday to fall to 0-7. On top of that, the Browns have a ton of injuries, most notably at the all-important position of quarterback, as they get ready to host the New York Jets on Sunday.
In that kind of situation, then, a guy like Jackson has to embrace all the positives that he can get.
