Sigh.
OK, I guess we’re going to have to do this one more time, for obviously hasn’t been made clearly enough yet.
I read a story the other day stating that the Browns’ 31-12 loss to the Denver Broncos last Sunday was not caused by one play, or even a few plays, but rather by a lot of bad plays from the offense, defense and even special teams.
I laughed out loud and shook my head in disbelief when I saw that.
No.
No!
NO!
NO!!
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A thousand times — a million times, a gazillion times — no.
That loss was caused by one play, the first one of the fourth quarter, when Browns head coach/offensive play-caller/chief bottle-washer/jack of all trades Kevin Stefanski, for some inane reason know only to him, and, of course, the demon who put the thought into his brain, refused to call a running play when those were working and instead selected some goofy gadget play. The Browns fumbled a hand-off and the Broncos recovered, taking complete control of the game from that point on.
You could see it, sense it. It was palpable.
Stefanski also did something somewhat similar — ignoring the running game when those plays were working and calling a pass — in a 24-20 loss to the Seattle Seahawks earlier this season.
So, then, for the record, Stefanski has cost the Browns two games all by himself already this year.
Football, and all sporting events, for that matter, are like movies and stories in books in that there are definite and easy-to-detect turning points.
Sunday’s loss was like that.
Sure, you could debate it, but you would be dead-wrong.
