It was predictable.
It was unpredictable.
And it was sorely needed.
That, in a nutshell, was the news involving wide receiver Josh Gordon in the span of about 21 hours on Thursday and Friday.
The predictable is that something happened before Gordon could rejoin the Browns next Monday and begin practicing, with hopes of playing against the New England Patriots the following Sunday. You just knew it was going to happen. It always does with Gordon, who, through suspensions and injuries, has played just five games the last three seasons.
The unpredictable is what caused it to happen this time. Instead of Gordon doing something dumb and getting himself suspended again, he announced that he was checking himself into s rehabilitation facility to deal with undisclosed problems. Finally, Gordon decided to look past football and to the big picture – his life, his well-being. Who knew he would mature overnight and do something he should have done some years ago? But better late than never. Good for him. He may have just saved his life.
Now for the sorely needed. It is that the Browns finally rid themselves of the headache, commotion and distraction that is Josh Gordon. It was such a soap opera with him. Enough is enough. This was the last straw. This new regime has decided to move on, getting rid of one of the last remaining vestiges of the last few regimes. Good for the Browns.
