Yes, I get it that his off-the-field resume has some undesirable aspects to it, but let’s be clear here — and reasonable — in pointing out that this is not the Deshaun Watson situation revisited.
Bond made one error in judgment, not bunches of them like the creepy quarterback did.
And let us state just as emphatically that acquiring players with a checkered past is nothing new in NFL history, let alone just Browns history. But speaking particularly about the Browns, both of their great eras of the 1980s would never have happened had the club not taken a chance with guys who had character issues.
Remember the Inner Circle, started by Kardiac Kids head coach Sam Rutigliano to handle substance abuse? I would never reveal their names, but some of the Browns’ best players were members.
Yeah, really.
In the Bernie Kosar era, it is public knowledge that fullback Kevin Mack battled drug addiction.
So, understanding that, then, let’s cool our jets and give young Isaiah Bond a chance to prove himself both on and off the field.
