Is Baker Mayfield trying too hard?

Is Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield simply trying too hard?
Is that why he has been missing some wide-open receivers, especially in the end zone, in recent games?
I don’t know, but it’s the best reason I can come up with to explain why a guy who has always bean so accurate in his football career sometimes isn’t now in big moments, and on easy throws. It’s like a baseball pitcher with good control suddenly being unable to throw a strike, or an accurate shooter in basketball suddenly missing “gimme” baskets
Let’s put this into perspective before we go any further. though. Mayfield is doing an excellent job overall of operating head coach Kevin Syefanski’s offense, particularly with the fact that he is not throwing interceptions anymore. He is the quarterback of an 8-3 team that has the Browns’ best record after 11 games since 1994, and could very well make the AFC playoffs for the first time in 18 years.
As such, then, Mayfield should not be subjected to much criticism. He has done a lot more right than he has done wrong for a club that has exceeded — perhaps greatly so — expectations.
What Browns quarterback in the expansion era would you rather have in place of Mayfield?
I’m waiting.
That’s right, none of them.
But for the Browns to get to where they want to go this year — not just into the postseason, but deep into it — Mayfield has to stop missing those easy touchdown throws, and that begins Sunday with the road trip to face the 8-3, AFC South-leading Tennessee Titans.
That might precisely be why Mayfield is trying too hard, if indeed he is. This is his chance to secure his spot as the franchise quarterback going forward on a good, young team that appears to have its best days ahead of it., and he doesn’t want to blow it. It would greatly benefit both him and the Browns to seize the moment fully, and he knows it.
