HUE MIGHT FORFEIT BEFORE PLAYING OSWEILER

I don’t know, exactly, what Browns head coach Hue Jackson thinks of quarterback Brock Osweiler as a person – a person outside of work, that is.

I’m guessing that he would say that Osweiler is a good and decent man. Perhaps a lot of people would say that. Osweiler seems to be a likeable guy. I can’t recall him robbing any banks or breaking into any homes. When I visited the post office last week, there were no photos of him on the walls.

But, more importantly, it’s not hard to figure out what Jackson thinks of Osweiler as a football player, as a quarterback. He’s said it several times publicly already since Osweiler arrived in a trade a couple months ago, and he said once again on Saturday during the club’s rookie mini camp.

It’s not glowing, to put it mildly.

Here’s Jackson’s response when asked where Osweiler stands heading into the next stage of offseason workouts:

“He is competing. He is here. Like I said from the beginning, if a guy is in our locker room, we are going to treat him like any of our other players – that is the right way to handle it – and give him an opportunity to compete and see what they bring to the table.

“In this league, we all know you can’t have enough good quarterbacks and enough guys to train at the position. You never know how it is going to unfold and things do happen. He is competing. He has done a good job. He is doing great in the room with the guys. He has been as good as a person in the building.

“We are going to continue to allow him to do that and see what he has to show for it first and kind of go from there.”

Wow!

Double-wow!!

There are utterances of disrespect by a coach toward one of his players, and then there are utterances of disrespect by a coach toward one of his players. And what Jackson said about Osweiler is definitely in the latter category.

If your significant other said that about you, then you’d be hurt, depressed, unwanted, unloved. You might seek counsel. You probably would start looking for another significant other.

Osweiler will play this season only if Jackson has no other viable options.

Taking a forfeit might be a viable option.

That should delight Browns fans, who are still trying to figure out why Brock Osweiler is here in the first place.
