Haslam’s Patience Could Save Stefanski and Berry for 2026

Some quick-hitting thoughts on the Browns as they continue to get ready for Sunday’s road game against the Chicago Bears:

*Who knows what’s really going to happen, but, despite media coverage to the contrary, I think ever-patient Browns owner Jimmy “Don’t Call Me Job” Haslam will refrain from firing head coach Kevin Stefanski and General Manager Andrew Berry and bring them back for 2026 with a privately issued “win or else” ultimatum.

How much are Browns Tickets on StubHub?

*Speaking of Berry, there was something in The Athletic’s NFL team rankings this week — the Browns were No. 31; shocking, huh? — that the club’s poor 3-10 record is taking the attention away from “the best rookie class in the league.” So true! But here, then, is the question that begs to be asked: “Where was this kind of excellence with Berry’s draft classes for all this other years?” And don’t say that it was because of the Deshaun Watson ordeal. Those other classes were so-so at best throughout, not just in the first round.

*When the worst special teams in the history of the Browns, and the worst in the NFL this season, mess up in every game, including in last Sunday’s 31-29 loss to the dreadful Tennessee Titans, we openly wonder here what they do in practice during the week. Well, what did they do in practice today?

*It was absurd that media outlets everywhere played up Stefanski’s announcement that Shedeur Sanders would remain the starting quarterback for the remainder of the season as if it were stunning “breaking news.” Sanders starting was a given. What did you think Stefanski was going to do, turn the reigns back over to Dillon Gabriel? Wow. It must have been a very slow news day.

*And finally, I know the early returns on the job first-year Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson is doing this season are fantastic — off the charts, really — but I will believe he has really turned the long-suffering franchise around only after the club wins for several straight years.
