Fun and not so fun times

I saw a photo the other day of former Browns star quarterback Brian Sipe and former head coach Sam Rutigliano walking off the field at Lakeland Community Colkege in Kirtland after a training camp practice during the Kardiac Kids era.

It immediately made me smile. It immediately brought me back to the most fun time in the history of this franchise. Watching the Kardiac Kids play was more fun than a human being should be allowed to have.

Also, it made me realize just how much I don’t like the current Browns season. It is no fun at all. We are four games in, and I already hate this season with a passion.

The team — the organization, too, in some ways — is totally dysfunctional. The Browns can’t score enough points. They can’t find a way to win. It was for Sometimes they don’t hard. They don’t plan intelligently. I can‘t decipher the offensive scheme, if in fact there is one, and I am worried about the defense because it just doesn’t seem to be nearly as good as it was a year ago.

This season is so much different than the one 45 years ago, when the Kardiac Kids played, and it is different, too, than last season, when, down the stretch, Joe Flacco led the Browns into the playoffs. It was a real joy. I will never forget it.

So, here we are, with a bad quarterback, and lots of other bad parts about this team. I always look forward to the Browns’ season, but I’m getting to the point where I am almost starting to look forward to the end of it. This is not what Browns fans signed up for when they fought to get the team back years ago. It just isn’t. The fans deserve so much more.

I am hoping that things change, but in my heart, I don’t think they will.

Indeed, there is nothing about this team that is pretty.

Again, I hate to see that, but it is true.
