Perhaps, after all, it could be worse — at least in some respects, when it comes to owners.
While Browns fans are bemoaning the fact that their team is a combined 6-25 over the past two seasons and are wondering what in the world that owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam are going to do once the offseason hits to try to fix it, Cincinnati Bengals fans are up in arms — literally and figuratively, as it were — that their owners, the Brown family, is giving them a snow job on two different fronts, on the field and in the stands.
The 4-12 Bengals are just a game better than Cleveland at the bottom the AFC North, their franchise quarterback, Joe Burrow, acts as if he’s given up, and ownership did not have snow removed from the seats of their stadium for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Yikes! What in the name of snowblowing equipment is going on? It’s one thing to get blown out by the Ravens like the Bengals did, but it’s another thing entirely to subject your fans to have to do their best Frosty the Snowman imitation to watch it. Perhaps Bengals management could have taken the hot seat that head coach Zac Taylor is on to try to melt away some of the white stuff.
Say what you want about the Haslams — and we have and will continue to do so, including later in this piece — but they always provide a professional presentation of home games, including snow removal, for fans. That has been the case since they purchased the team in 2012.
Speaking of hot seats, what are the Haslams going to do at the end of the season with their beleaguered top football men, head coach Kevin Stefanski and General Manager Andrew Berry?
That remains to be seen. I was shocked at the ramp-up, following Sunday’s 31-3 road loss to the Chicago Bears, of the voices of those people who want the two men fired. That game was horrible, to be sure, but it was no worse than many others this season. This is a trend. Talk about being late to the party!
As easy as disconnecting with Stefanski and Berry would be — indeed, hardly anyone would object to it — I think the Haslams will bring them back for one more season to attempt to right the ship, or else.
