It’s a simple thing, but it really isn’t.
In fact, it’s the most difficult thing in football at all levels, especially the NFL
That is, finding a quarterback.
The best teams have solid players at quarterback. They have their guy, and depending on how good that guy is, that’s how good the team is, or at least can be.
Regardless of what you may hear, or see, the best quarterback in the game right now is Patrick Mahomes. That’s why the Kansas City Chiefs are trying for a third straight Super Bowl victory. He may not have made the Pro Bowl this season, but he’s headed to the Pro Foitball Hall of Fame in Canton at some point.
But locating that quarterback is incredibly hard. It’s an art form, really. The Chiefs struggled for a long time to find their guy until Mahomes arrived. Head coach Andy Reid was not how he is perceived today until he got Mahomes. Bill Belichick did not become the greatest head coach of all-time until Tom Brady arrived. Paul Brown had Otto Graham. The list goes on and on.
The Browns aren’t doing anything until they straighten out their quarterback situation. They need to add players at this position and that position. Yes, that’s true, but nothing happens in this rebuild until they have answers at quarterback. They most likely will have to bring in a veteran guy, and then try to find a young guy to develop. Who those players are will be determined, but the Browns have to get it right, or else General Manager Andrew Berty and head coach Kevin Stefanski will be out of jobs. Owner Jimmy Haslam has patience, but there’s only so much of it and it’s wearing thin.
So, then, the 2025 season has already begun for the Browns, even though there will be no games that count in the standings for nine months.
