The Browns — and people in the media who act as mouthpieces for them — can say all they want to try to explain all the coaching changes the team is making now, but the fact remains that it just doesn’t make sense.
The Browns are purging a lot of their offensive coaches, but it was those coaches who guided the injury-riddled unit to perform well enough to get the team into the playoffs. I think, and I even wrote about it once, that all the assistant coaches, especially those on offense, where the task was so much greater because of the health issues, did a great job this year for the Browns. How they can justify firing those guys after all that is beyond me. It’s just another thing that has not made sense since the Browns played that game against Houston in the playoffs and got obliterated.
It wasn’t coaching on the offense that was the problem, if there was anything that was a problem in that playoff game against the Texans. If you want to blame somebody, then blame the coaches on defense, which totally collapsed despite the fact that it really didn’t have any health issues at all.
The Browns just need better players in certain areas, and all the coaching in the world — good, badbor indifferent — isn’t going to help that in any way, shape or form.
We’ll see how it all works out, but change for the sake of change is never a good thing, and I think a lot of this is going to turn out to be just that.
