EVERYTHING’S BIGGER IN TEXAS – INCLUDING THE CHALLENGE

By STEVE KING

Everything’s Bigger in Texas: Did you watch the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football a couple days ago?

If you did – and you’re a Browns fan – then you have to be a little – or perhaps even considerably – nervous because the two teams play on Sunday at NRG Stadium.

The Texans put on a real show, blowing out a decent – not great, mind you, but certainly decent – Tennessee Titans team, 34-17. And it wasn’t really even that close, as the Texans, after falling behind 10-0 in a veritable blink of an eye, outscored the team coached by Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit High School and Ohio State product Mike Vrabel by a resounding 34-7 the rest of the way.

The Texans looked big, strong, powerful and fast – very fast.

And very, very talented. Yes, they operated like a well-oiled machine.

Did we also mention that the Texans (8-3) are blistering-hot – the hottest team in the NFL? They have won eight in a row to turn around – in an eye-popping way – a season that seemed completely lost after a nightmarish 0-3 start.

Teams don’t rebound, especially like this, after coming out of the gate with three straight losses. It’s a death knell.

But the Texans did rebound.

And that’s more than just noteworthy. It’s downright stunning.

Indeed, while seemingly everybody in the NFL is gushing over the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams – and rightfully so – and while everybody is keeping an eye on the team that’s always hanging around near the top of the heap, the New England Patriots, the Texans are serving notice in a way that definitely can’t be ignored that they’re real players in this thing, too.

So the Browns (4-6-1), who are drawing a lot of attention as well with their two straight convincing victories, obviously have a major challenge in front of them.

It’s not really as if they will have no chance to win if they fail to bring their “A” game. It’s more like they’ll get blown out of the water if they aren’t the best of themselves.

Moreover, in the bigger, more telling and, when you get right down to it, more important big picture going forward, playing a team like the Texans will give these ever-improving Browns a good idea of just where, exactly, their rebuilding process is at right now.
