There is an older fella who is the public address announcer for basketball games at a local high school.

When he gets done with all of his pre-game presentation — the lead-in to the national anthem, acknowledging the three officials, their importance to the game and prep sports in general in the area and a plea for everyone to treat them with respect, and the introduction of the teams, including the starting lineups — he says something that fits the mood of everyone in the gym.

“We’re done with all the talking! Now it’s time to play basketball! Let’s get this party started!”

That’s how I feel about the introductory press conference the Browns held Tuesday for their new head coach, Todd Monken. We’re done already with all the talking! It’s time to start doing football things! Let’s get this rebuild started!

Indeed.

Led by Monken, the Browns need to figure out the quarterback situation. I have been very vocal in saying that the starter is already on the roster in the person of Shedeur Sanders.

They need to fix the offense. You can’t win in the NFL if you are unable to score a a good number of points, and the Browns are unable to score a good number of points right now.

They need to fix the offensive line. It all starts up front, and the Browns don’t have much there at this time.

They need to add several quality wide receivers. The NFL is a passing league, and you have to have a group of guys who can grab the football and then run after the catch. The Browns don’t have enough of those players, either.

They need to continue to add pieces to the defense. You can never have enough good players.

And, oh yes, they need to do everything they can to make sure that defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz doesn’t leave. Throw money and titles at him, talk to him and do whatever you can to keep him. He is as important as any of these things. For if you can figure out how to score points but end up giving up more points than you score, then you’re right back to square one with the ultimate result, and that is losing football games.

Man, oh man, there is a lot for the Browns to do. I need to shut up now and let them get to work.
