Three thoughts, from a Browns and local perspective, on the Philadelphia Eagles’ stunning 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59 on Sunday night:

*Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni, who have been working together since the latter arrived n 2021, have so greatly surpassed the work of their respective contemporaries with the Browns, Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski (paired since 2020), that it’s almost mind-boggling. Philadelphia has been to the playoffs all four seasons, making it to the Super Bowl twice and winning once. What Berry and Stefanski have done wouldn’t fly in Philly, where the standard is so much higher than it is in Cleveland. They would have already gotten fired. I wonder if Browns owner Jimmy Haslam has thought about it.

*A special shout-out to Sirianni, the former wide receiver at Mount Union. He deserves a lot of credit for getting the Eagles soaring after a tough finish last year and just a 2-2 start this season.

*And finally, the Eagles, with their relentless hounding of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, showed the value of a dominant defensive line even in this offense-centric era. And here the Browns are, having already traded away end Za’Darius Smith after they fell out of contention this season and in danger of losing their other end as well, future Pro Football Hall of Famer Myles Garrett, who has asked to be traded because he is convinced the Browns can’t compete for a Super Bowl and that’s what he wants to play in before he retires. Ugh.
