DON’T MISS THIS SHOW ON THURSDAY NIGHT

Get ready for a special TV program.

The ESPN “30 for 30” documentary, “The Two Bills,” will air Thursday night at 9. The 90-minute program involves a sit-down back-and-forth between former Browns head coach Bill Belichick and his mentor, Pro Football Hall of Fame head coach Bill Parcells.

I can’t remember when I’ve been this anxious to see something on TV.

There is bound to be lots of stuff with a Cleveland flavor to it from Belichick’s time with the Browns from 1991-95. He took the job a day after being the New York Giants defensive coordinator who came up with the great plan to throttle a high-powered Buffalo Bills offense in a Super Bowl victory following the 1990 season. Parcells, of course, was the coach of the team. Belichick had been with the Giants since 1981, and a member of Parcells’ staff since 1983.

Parcells and Belichick later coached together with the New England Patriots, who Belichick will coach in Super Bowl 52 against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night, and the New York Jets.

They became estranged from one another – very much so, actually – for a long time after Belichick resigned as head coach of the Jets following just one day on the job. Parcells stepped down as head coach and bequeathed his job to Belichick, and he became infuriated when Belichick instead went to the arch-rival Patriots as head coach. It was a confusing, controversial, ugly and surprising situation and put a nose guard-sized wedge between them. They weren’t even on speaking terms.

Yet here they are in this piece sitting next to each other and talking and talking and talking about a variety of topics, perhaps even that one. We’ll just have to see.

These ESPN “30 for 30” shows are usually pretty good, and this one may just end up being the best one ever. Don’t you dare miss it.
