Dome talk? That’s nothing new

As summer begins, the talk hears up about the team for which, going back decades, it has been sizzling much more often than not.

Indeed, the Browns never seem to make small news, and so it was over the weekend with talk of a new stadium – with a dome.

Wow!

But why should we be surprised?

Come on, people, when owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam got involved with the development of the lakefront around their team’s current stadium located smack-dab in the middle of it, was there ever a doubt that there would be something big coming for the stadium?

And carrying that one step further, was there also any doubt whatsoever that the idea – and impetus – for a domed facility would be floated?

Remember, long before the Haslams arrived, decades ago, when a much younger Jimmy was polishing gas pumps and taking out garbage to get a feel for the gas station/convenience store business from the bottom up, there has been all kinds of discussion about a domed stadium for the Browns. That really heated up – there’s that term again – when FirstEnergy Stadium was built. But that particular talk was quickly dismissed – and rightfully so – because of the ultra-quick timeline needed in getting the place built and ready for the 1999 season.

Now it has resurfaced once more.

So, then, no one should be shocked.

But the practicality of it?

Ah, that may – or may not – be another story.

All this while the Deshaun Watson situation burns hot.

Typical Browns.
