The Browns are pushing the fact that they have been better since head coach Kevin Stefanski, and General Manager Andrew Barry were paired together in 2020.
That is true. They have made the playoffs twice. Compared to what the Browns did for the first two decades of the expansion era, that is actually much better.
But the bar is set pretty low. So, while they have been better, they have not been good. I don’t call two wild-card playoff appearances, no division titles and three seasons of missing the playoffs as good. I just don’t.
Good is getting to the playoffs in at least three of those seasons, if not four. Good is winning at least one division title. Good is winning more than one postseason game, which is all the Browns have done.
This is not good, and what prospects do we have for the situation to be any better next season?
We don’t.
The Browns severely botched this quarterback situation, certainly with the Deshaun Watson debacle being the headliner, but also with letting Baker Mayfield go and letting Joe Flacco go. When you make mistakes anywhere on the roster, it hurts, and the Browns have made many. But when you make mistakes at quarterback, and they are glaring mistakes, you set the franchise back years and years. And that’s what the Browns have done.
So, that mediocre stench will continue if you keep the status quo. But if you want something better, and I definitely want something better, then Barry and Stefanski have to go. It is that simple.
