Did the Browns learn a lesson against Cowboys?
By STEVE KING
NFL teams should consider themselves extremely lucky if they can learn a hard, tough lesson and not suffer greatly in the process.
So, then, the Browns should consider themselves very fortunate after defeating the Dallas Cowboys 49-38 on Sunday. They won despite taking their foot off the gas pedal after blowing out to a 41-14 through three quarters. Then the Cowboys, who have had a knack for coming back from big deficits in this young season, put on a furious rally, scoring 24 unanswered points to get within just three points, 41-38, late in the game before the Browns clinched it with one last touchdown.

These teams in this league are too good — there is too much parity — to quit playing and assume that the opposition is going to do the same. No way, especially if you’re the proud, tradition-rich Cowboys and you’re getting totally humiliated in your own building. These teams are made up of paid professionals — they don’t give up — and as a result, one way or another, almost all of these games end up being close.
The Browns, filled with young players who are still experiencing, learning and developing, found that out — and then some — in Dallas.
In addition to the Browns defeating the Cowboys by 11 points, in other games on Sunday:
The Buccaneers beat the Chargers by eight.
The Saints beat the Lions by six.
The Vikings beat the Texans by eight.
The Bengals beat the Jaguars by eight.
The Seahawks beat the Dolphins by eight.
The Colts beat the Bears by eight.
The Bills beat the Raiders by seven.
The Rams beat the Giants by eight.
And the Eagles beat the 49ers by five.
It’s bad enough to lose, and it’s even worse when a team has a big lead and loses a game it should have won because it couldn’t seal the deal. The Browns got away with one on Sunday. They may not be so lucky the next time.
