Day 2 of the NFL Draft

By the time you read this, you will know the answer to these questions.

But as I sit here on Friday afternoon, six hours before the start of the second day of the NFL Draft — or, for the Browns, the first day of the draft since they didn’t participate in Friday night’s first round for the third straight year because of the Deshaun Watson trade — I am hoping that they don’t trade back as the second and third rounds are held.

They are already far enough back in the pack. Their first selection, at No. 54 overall, is near the end of the second round. Their second choice, No. 85, is near the completion of the third round. How much further back can you go?

Browns General Manager Andrew Perry needs to put on his big-boy pants and make a pick right where he’s at, that is if he can’t make a trade to go up higher into the second round or to go up higher into the third round. The Browns are right at the edge of the point where a team feels pretty good about finding players who can help this season. In the fourth through seventh rounds, to be held Saturday on the third and final day of the draft, you’re going to find few gems.

The Browns have a fifth-round pick, at No. 156 overall, a sixth-rounder (206) and two seventh-rounders (227 and 243). To fans, choices that low can be likened to kids getting underwear and socks for Christmas. They’re just not interested.

And while we’re on the subject of turning off the fans, as Browns fans were watching the first round of the draft Thursday play out yet again without their team participating, a story broke about Watson visiting with a prince in Saudi Arabia. I’m sure his intentions were good, but, considering everything, the timing was absolutely awful.
