Here’s some Browns quarterback news of a different vein.

With New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dartt apparently lost for the rest of the season, or at least for a significant portion of it, with a knee injury suffered in Monday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams, former Brown Jameis Winston has taken over as the starter, possibility for the duration of 2026.

As Brown fans know from his time here several years ago, Winston is a high- risk, high-reward guy. But he did not play well in relief of Dartt against the Rams. Indeed, there seemed to be a whole lot more risk than reward in that game.

There is a lot of the season left, and you have to wonder if new Giants head coach John Harbaugh wants to commit to Winston, or even Dartt, since the latter was acquired before the coach got there. Thus, Dartt is not necessarily Harbaugh’s player.

There is some scuttlebutt going around the NFL that the Giants could eventually become interested in Browns backup, at least for now, Shadeur Sanders. Would the Browns be willing to part way ways with Sanders? Are they comfortable enough with Deshaun Watson to do that? Would they be comfortable enough with inserting Dillon Gabriel into the game should Watson get hurt — again — without Sanders backing him up? And would they be willing to give up completely on Sanders and then just concentrate on the 2027 NFL Draft to pick a franchise quarterback?

The Browns love to acquire draft assets. That’s what analytics are all about. Sometimes it seems like the value acquiring assets more than they value winning games. That’s not a good thing.

We’ll have to see how all this plays out, if it plays out at all with any involvement of the Browns.

It’s just another thing to think about with this crazy quarterback situation in which the Browns find themselves.
