We’re overthinking this Deshaun Watson situation.
When you do that, you just muddy-up the waters.
Quit doing that. It’s very simple, really.
Really.
Really!
It’s simply a matter of common sense.
Let’s say that your 20-something son stops over at the house and tells you he’s in a pickle. He tells you that, in his dealings with over two dozen women – or at least that’s all he will admit to — he has been far from the gentleman you raised him to be. He has been an intimacy maniac. How about that term? I just made it up. It’s a kind word for sexual deviant.
Anyway, what would your reaction be?
Would you give him a little talking to and send him on his way? Or would you do something to try to punish him in the most forceful way possible, since this is light years beyond anything he’s ever done – actually, lights years beyond anything you’ve ever heard being done by anyone, anywhere at any time?
You would do the latter. Any responsible parent would.
So, then, with this being the worst sexual misconduct in the history of the NFL, the penalty for the Browns quarterback can’t be just a veritable slap on the wrist or a few hours in the timeout chair.
It has to be – it absolutely must be – just as historic in its severity.
A year?
Not really.
Rather, it should be at least a year.
That only makes sense.
Anything less and the NFL will, in the eyes of its fans, especially the females, appear to have lost its soul.
