Cleveland’s Great What If: How 1995 Changed Everything

So many things to ponder when looking back at 1995 and beyond

What if?

Indeed, “What if?” regarding the sad events of 30 years ago, 1995, with the Browns, who visit the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

What if the Cleveland city, and Cuyahoga County, fathers had listened to then Browns owner Art Modell’s need for a new or renovated stadium for the team?

What if they had acquiesced and come to an agreement on that need?

What if a new stadium had been built and the Browns stayed?

What if Baltimore had instead gotten the expansion team?

What if all the good things that happened with the Baltimore Ravens had happened with the Browns?

What if Bill Belichick had stayed in Cleveland and become the head coach with the Browns that he was with the New England Patriots?

What if the Browns had drafted Tom Brady?

What if Ozzie Newsome had become the general manager of the Browns?

What if Newsome had drafted Ray Lewis, Jonathan Ogden, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs, Jamal Lewis, Haloti Ngata, Joe Flacco and Lamar Suggs?

What if Modell had eventually sold the Browns to a Cleveland area entity with deep pockets?

What if an indoor stadium had been built for the Browns?

What if John Dorsey had been hired as the GM of the Browns, after Newsome’s retirement, in this new situation?

What if he had hired Mike Vrabel as head coach?

What if Dorsey had drafted Baker Mayfield?

What if all of that had really happened?

What would today — and the Browns — look like?
