The Browns don’t have a lot of players who performed well last season.
That’s why they finished an abysmal 3–14.
And when it gets to the players who have performed well over a number of years, that list gets a lot shorter.
That’s why they have made the playoffs just twice in the last five seasons.
Long snapper Charley Hughlett is on both of those lists.
So, why, then, did the Browns, who need all the good players they can get, release him the other day?
Don’t tell me it’s a salary cap issue. Long snappers don’t make enough money for that to be the case.
Rather, it’s more of a case of the team’s decision-makers not having any idea of what they’re doing.
And, when you get right down to it, the long and short of it is that’s a frightening thought.
