Camp is here but the fun is not

Football is supposed to be fun.

And if you live in Cleveland or Northeast Ohio, Browns football is supposed to be fun.

But this isn’t fun – not at all, not in the least bit – as the Browns open training camp.

I can never remember the start of a Browns training camp like this. In the past, there was always great anticipation for the beginning of camp. Football was back – Browns football, that is – and all was right with the world again.

Not this time, though, and it all goes back to the trade with the Houston Texans to get Deshaun Watson.

I don’t care about the three first-round picks in the NFL Draft the Browns gave up in the deal, or that they are paying him $230 million in guaranteed money. If the Browns are convinced that he’s the real deal as their franchise quarterback, then he’s worth all that – and then some. Quarterback is the most important position in team sports, and you’ve got to have a good one to have a good chance.

But what I am having a big problem coming to grips with – and probably a lot of you, too, are having a big problem coming to grips with – is that the Browns are trying to do it with a guy whose character is highly suspect, to put it mildly. Yes, the face of the franchise for our team is, in the court of public opinion for many, a pervert.

A pervert!

A pervert!!

A pervert!!!

Yikes!

You’ve got to be kidding me!

Fun?

How in the world is any of that fun?

How?!

Tell me.
