Winning is great.
There is no substitute for it. No matter who it’s against, when, where, how and by how much, it’s the best thing in sports. You revel in it.
And so it is, too, with the Browns’ 31-6 dismantling of the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at Huntington Bank Field.
New Era Cleveland Browns 2025 Sideline 39THIRTY Flex Hat
Worn by players and coaches on the sidelines
This structured flex-fit hat is part of the NFL’s official 2025 sideline collection. It features the modern Browns helmet logo with mesh backing for breathability.
Forget that the Dolphins, now at 1-6 and fading fast, might be the worst team in the NFL that’s not named the New York Jets. Forget that they looked completely checked out. And forget that their head coach, Mike McDaniel, appeared befuddled on the sideline, standing there with sunglasses on during a cloudy, rainy day as he perused a play sheet that contained a bunch of choices that weren’t working.
A win is a win is a win, especially for a team such as the struggling Browns, for whom any port is a safe haven in a storm.
But there is a 24-hour rule in pro football. That is, celebrate a win or bemoan a loss for a day and then move on.
The Browns next face the rejuvenated New England Patriots on the road on Sunday. Head coach Mike Vrabel, the Walsh Jesuit High School and Ohio State product who spent last season with the Browns in an advisory role, has his sights set on the playoffs and beyond and will have his talented bunch ready to play, unlike Miami.
The league — and greatness in it — is built on consistency, not shooting star-like events. So, while beating the Dolphins made every Browns fan smile, defeating the Patriots in their own building would get everyone in these parts to sit up and start to really take notice.
Remember, the Browns didn’t dig this hole for themselves overnight, and so they’re not going to climb out it just like that, either.
