Pickett, who was acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles in a March trade, had been receiving a significant share of reps throughout minicamp and the early days of training camp. While veteran Joe Flacco handled most of the first-team work, Pickett regularly stepped in during team drills when Flacco was off the field.
🔁 Practice Reps to Shift
The injury occurred on the final play of Friday’s practice—a red zone drill where Pickett rolled right and connected with tight end Blake Whiteheart for a touchdown. It’s unclear exactly when the injury happened, but Pickett did take the final snap of the session.
With Pickett sidelined for evaluation, the Browns will now have to reallocate his reps among the remaining quarterbacks: Flacco, Gabriel, and Sanders. Quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave said the coaching staff would meet Sunday to review the first block of camp and adjust as needed heading into padded practices.
“Next week will be important,” Musgrave said. “All four guys are really making good progress, and Tommy and Kevin are doing a great job of getting everybody their looks.”
📅 What’s Next?
As of now, no drastic changes in the quarterback hierarchy are expected, but Pickett’s status will be closely monitored. The Browns aim to simulate more game-like scenarios in the upcoming padded practices, which will be crucial for developing depth at the QB position.
Stay tuned for updates as Pickett’s injury is re-evaluated and the competition heats up in Berea.
