Browns Preseason Opener Brings Mixed Fortunes for Young WRs
The Cleveland Browns’ preseason win over the Carolina Panthers was a showcase for young receivers fighting for roster spots — but it came with heartbreak for one. Former Mentor High and Kent State standout Luke Floriea delivered one of the game’s top highlights, a one–handed 30–yard grab that helped set up a touchdown. Unfortunately, a third–quarter hamstring injury cut his night short and ultimately led to his release with an injury designation on Aug. 11.

I’m told there is NO surgery needed, timetable 2-3 weeks. Not viewed as serious as expected, but team wants to resign the Kent alum when… pic.twitter.com/vZbGGtC4AW
Kaden Davis stole the scoring spotlight, catching both of rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ touchdown passes in a three–catch, 23–yard performance. Rookie Gage Larvadain also impressed with 23 receiving yards, a 4–yard rushing touchdown, and strong punt–return work.
With Jerry Jeudy, Cedric Tillman, and Jamari Thrash locked into the top wideout spots, Davis and Larvadain will continue their push for roster spots in joint practices with the Eagles before the Aug. 16 preseason matchup in Philadelphia.
