Browns make roster moves

BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks have agreed to the following trade:

Browns receive:

C Nick Harris

2026 7th round pick

Seattle receive:

2026 6th round pick

Harris is entering his fourth NFL season out of Washington. Originally a fifth-round pick (160th overall) by Cleveland in 2020, Harris has appeared in 40 career games with four starts.

No stadium talk should be going on now

The Browns opened their preseason at home on Saturday against the Green Bay Packers.

We just thought we would let you know that because in stories concerning the team recently, that was No. 3.

It lagged behind the Browns‘ pursuit of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Ayiuk, and all the reaction to the club releasing mockups of what a new dome stadium in Brook Park might look like.

And that’s not the way it should be. The game should be the leading story. The Browns have a chance to do some great things this year, and this is the first little step in that direction, even though it’s a game that doesn’t count.

I can understand the interest in Aiyuk, who has apparently told the Browns thanks but no thanks on coming to Cleveland. He is a top-tier talent and would’ve been a great addition to the team.

The Browns have no control over that, really. Teams try to keep that stuff out of the public domain, but it’s hard to do it in this day of age on the internet. In any event, that is a big story indeed.

But the thing that bothers me most is the presence of stadium talk in a week when the Browns are in training camp and the start of the preseason is at hand. Stadium talk is for the off-season or at a time when nothing is going on, and there will not be a time when nothing is going on until the end of the season.

That the Browns brought us onto themselves by releasing those drawings is absolutely unbelievable. There are enough distractions going on for Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, his coaches and the players. They don’t need another one, but the people who own the team, Jimmy and Dee Haslam, still thought it was a great time to put the stadium into the spotlight.

That is just about as stupid as it gets.

Talk about a distraction. That is a colossal distraction. All this comes after the Browns went to a resort in West Virginia for the second straight year so they could bond and get away from things. When they return, they did so to swirling controversy concerning the stadium situation.

Someone in the Browns, such as their media relations people and advisors, should have convinced the Haslams not to do that, that it was horrible timing. But either the media people and advisors didn’t do it, or they did and the Haslams didn’t listen. I believe the former is true. I am shocked that nobody in the organization had enough sense to see what a big distraction this was going to be.

That is troubling.

Indeed, it makes the organization look really, really, really bad;
