Thank goodness the Browns are not in the market for a starting quarterback.
Because if they were, they would be getting caught up in the incessant talk – a lot of it hype and falsehoods — about the top players at that position in the NFL Draft. What has really gotten the discussion going is what went on in the recent NFL Combine in Indianapolis. It is nothing short of comical.
The scouts, coaches and general managers at the combine went wild over Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson, who was a workout warrior with one of the greatest performances in the history of the event. In their estimation, he rocketed his way up the draft charts so far that he may be the second or third quarterback chosen. They conveniently forget that he was bad – if not downright terrible – in his career with the Gators. His passing accuracy was barely above 50 percent.
Yet, at the same time, these same football “sleuths” have all kinds of questions about Alabama quarterback Bryce Young because of his small size and slight frame. They conveniently forget the fact that he had a great career with the Crimson Tide, winning the Heisman Trophy two seasons ago.
All that is utter nonsense. This is football, not a track meet.
I’m just glad it doesn’t involve the Browns.
