Browns draft two at the top of the second round

You’re never going to hear me complain when the Browns pick a linebacker the NFL draft, which they did Friday night with the very first pick of the second round, at No.,33 overall, with UCLA‘s Carson Schwesinger.

If you said that the linebacker position is the weakest on the team, you might be right. The Browns have struggled mightily at linebacker in this expansion era, and heading into m the draft, their best linebacker had real injury concerns.

You’re also never going to hear me complain when the Browns draft any player from Ohio State, especially a running back, which is what they did in the second round at No. 36 overall when they tabbed Quinshon Judkins.

Way too many times in this expansion era, the Browns, for whatever reasons, have pretty much ignored talent from Ohio State. So it’s great to see a buckeye come off the board, particularlyat an area of need.

And you’re never going to hear me complain when the Browns draft a local player, and one from the Mid-America Conference, as they did at the top of the third round, at No. 67 overall, with Harold Fannin, a product of Canton McKinley High School and Bowling Green State University.

So, then, you’re going to hear nothing but praise from me about how they began the second day of the NFL Draft.

Now, with their pick at No. 96 overall, near the end of the third round, in Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel, that’s a different story entirely. I think the Browns waited way,m way, way too long to take a shot at a young quarterback. I really don’t know what they think they’re going to do, other than to trot Kenny Picket out there, with veteran Joe Flacco as his backup. I don’t see Gabriel being any part of the picture at all.
