Browns Draft Shedeur Sanders

It was the steal of the draft

When I first saw it on Saturday, I couldn’t believe it.

Was it really true that the Browns had used a fifth-round pick on the final day of the NFL Draft to get Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders?

Wow!

Nobody has been harder on the Browns, especially General Manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski, than I have. I want in the worst way to see the Browns win, and be very successful, but I am not about to be subjective and make a situation look much, much better than it really is.I try to always be objective, whether whether it’s something for which the Browns should be praised, or chastised.. That’s just the way it is, and the way it has to be. I would have it no other way, and neither would you, our readers.

But for that to be true, when the Browns do something well, then I have to give them kudos.

There is nothing negative about this, not even in the least. The Browns got a very good quarterback at a spot in the draft where most teams are acquiring players who will struggle to make the practice squad. It was the steal of the draft, no doubt about it. The Browns outsmarted every team in the league, being brave enough, savvy enough and smart enough to not get caught up in all the rhetoric and to take a player at a spot way below where he should’ve gone in this draft. Ladies and gentlemen, you can’t do any better than that. Hats off to the Browns. They did an outstanding job. Hats off as well to owner Jimmy Hadlsm, who did not stand in the way of what his two top football men wanted to do.

When you watched Sanders’ workout that was televised on the NFL Network, you had to be impressed. He made every throw, long and short. He looks like a real keeper. In fact, I liked his workout more than I liked that of Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick.

Yes, probably Sanders and Ithose in his camp needed to be humbled a little bit, or a lot, and they were. Now, though, he can get his mind right and come in and show the Browns, and the rest of the NFL, that he has a lot to offer.

Years ago, defensive tackle Warren Sapp got passed over again and again and again in the draft because of some character issues. He said when he finally got drafted by Tampa Bay that the teams that passed up on him were going to rue the day they did so. And it turned out that way.

Wouldn’t it be something if the same thing happened to Sanders?

We’ll have to wait and see on that one, but the Browns have really generated some juice.

It’s great to be a fan of the Cleveland Browns.
