And win they did indeed on a cool, rainy, windy Sunday afternoon at Huntington Bank Field with a 31-6 cane-switching of the Miami Dolphins, whose give-up attitude must have Don Shula turning over in his grave.
But that’s their problems. We couldn’t care less about the Dolphins, who entered the game with the same 1-5 record as the Browns. We have the capacity to worry about only one struggling football team at a time, and we pick ours.
The Browns used a pair of tried and true methods to win, running the ball with rookie Quinshon Judkins, who scored three times for one of the best performances by a running back in team history, and unleashing one of the best defenses the club has ever had, one that smothered the Dolphins, and especially quarterback Tua “Pick-Six” Tagovailoa, from the get-go.
Do the Browns have their future franchise quarterback on the roster right now? Who knows, but they sure as Nick Chubb have their franchise running back in Judkins, and they sure as Clay Matthews have their franchise linebacker in another rookie, Carson Schwesinger. Rookie defensive tackle Mason Graham ain’t shabby, either.
We’ll get into more details the next time and as the week wears on, because if you spend too long on all that stuff right now, you’ll ruin the unbridled joy of shouting to the rooftops, “We win!!!,” for just the fifth time in two seasons.
