Browns Coaching Decisions Reach New Level of Frustration

Two offensive guys whose work is offensive

I keep hearing that Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees has such a great offensive mind.

For the life of me, I just don’t see it.

And we’ve heard all along, for six seasons now, that head coach Kevin Stefanski knows offense inside and out.

Again, for the life of me, I just don’t see it.

Neither one of them has a feel for the game, and that can be a killer. It was exactly that at the end of the Browns’ 31-29 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at cold, snowy Huntington Bank Field.

When the Browns scored earlier in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 31-23, they went for the two-point conversion for some unknown reason. Why not just kick the extra point?

When they didn’t get it, then they had to go for two points at the end of the game when they scored to make it 31-29. Instead of putting the ball in the hands of Shedeur Sanders, whose performance on Sunday was the best in the history of Browns rookie quarterbacks, and who had just driven the club 80 yards for a touchdown, the two offensive geniuses ran some gimmick play to try to get the two-point conversion and it blew up in her faces.

Once more, this is not about winning and losing games at this point in the year. The season was lost long, long ago. But you want to see some common sense, too, to reward the players for their hard work. Instead, the Browns do things that are inexplicable.

The problem is, that next year, when the Browns are going to have to win for the coaches to keep their jobs, they’re not going to have some kind of epiphany in the offseason to figure out how to manage playcalling and decision-making. So, the silly, damaging stuff that is happening this season will likely occur in 2026

We’re not even done with this season, and we’re already worrying about next season and what could, and again, probably will happen.

This is maddening, and I am sick and tired of it, as I am sure you are as well.
