Braylon Edwards catches three touchdown passes in win over Dolphins in 2007

Wide receiver Braylon Edwards had a huge season in 2007.

And he had a huge game on Oct. 14 against the Miami Dolphins at what was then known as Cleveland Browns Stadium.

The third-year pro caught three touchdown passes from Derek Anderson, two of which came on consecutive possessions in the fourth quarter to seal the deal, as the Browns evened their record at 3-3 with a 41-31 win before a crowd of 73,198.

Edwards caught five passes in all for 67 yards. Tight end Kellen Winslow, who had a big year as well in 2007, had nine receptions for 90 yards.

Anderson, who would end up in the Pro Bowl with Edwards and Winslow, along with three teammates, completed 18 of 25 passes for 245 yards and the three scores with no interceptions.

The Browns, despite being without injured running back Jamal Lewis, another Pro Bowl-worthy player, still rushed for 140 yards behind the efforts of Jason Wright (59 yards) and Jerome Harrison (57). That helped them amass 384 total yards.

One-yard TD runs by Wright and Anderson, a 40-yard field goal by Phil Dawson and Edward’s first scoring catch on a 24-yard pass, gave the Browns a 24-3 second-quarter lead. Dawson added a 20-yard field goal as they were up 27-10 at halftime.

After the Dolphins cut the deficit to 27-24 by the end of third quarter, Edwards and Anderson went to work again, combining on five- and 16-yard scoring passes to make it 41-24.

Edwards finished the season with 1,289 yards receiving and 16 touchdown catches, both of which set franchise records, and added a career-best 80 receptions.

The Cleveland offense, which had struggled for so much of the expansion era, was running on full-throttle. It would be the key in the Browns finishing 10-6 – still only one of two winning marks since their return to the field in 1999 – and just barely missing out on both the AFC North title and a wild-card playoff berth.
