Beckham might be traded – could be a rumor, or not

By STEVE KING

It should come as absolutely no surprise to you, or anyone else, for that matter, really, that Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. may – I repeat that, MAY — be on the trading block.

This is the same Odell Beckham Jr. who, after being acquired by the team in a trade last year, made fans ecstatic and the Browns the talk of the NFL.

Now, this could be being just a rumor, and Beckham may return to the Browns and, teaming up with good friend Jarvis Landry, give the club one of the top wide receiving duos in the league.

Or it could be true and will ultimately happen.

Who knows what the odds of either possibility playing out, but I’m guessing that there might be a lot on money on both sides.

Anyway, while we’re waiting for whatever to happen – or not – there’s one thing you should know, or realize. Perhaps a lot of you already know, or realize, it.

And it is that no one – not one player among the Browns players this new regime has inherited, and this includes quarterback Baker Mayfield – is safe, a roster lock, at least in the long run.

Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski obviously didn’t acquire — in any way, shape or form – any of these inherited players. Those came from the old regime, or regimes, as it were.

As such, they have nothing invested in them and owe nothing to them. In fact, if the truth be told, they might be, in some respects, a better bet – we do a lot of wagering, per se, here — to be sent packing than to remain and be of this re-made team going forward.

Berry and Stefanski have to get players they trust and believe in, and until, or if, they feel comfortable with them, anything could happen.

That is why Beckham might be traded, or not.
