BAD TO THE DAWG BONE

I saw an article the other day themed around the contention that “the Browns offense isn’t as bad as you think it is.”

Hmmm.

It was written by someone who I firmly believe knows football inside and out.

Hmmm.

Why he wrote it is anyone’s guess. Perhaps it was simply his turn to write something and he couldn’t come up with a good idea.

In any event, saying that “the Browns offense isn’t bad as you think it is” is so completely absurd that it’s funny.

Uh, in a morbid sort of way.

“The Browns offense is as bad as you think it is?”

Are you kidding?

You have to be kidding, right?

Let’s examine that premise, that “the Browns offense isn’t as bad as you think it is”:

*Even Browns head coach Hue Jackson thinks it’s really bad. He’s said so many times in so many words.

*Except for much of 2002 and all of 2007, the Browns offense has been really bad throughout the expansion era.

*The Browns don’t have a franchise quarterback and haven’t had one since Bernie Kosar 30 years ago. A franchise quarterback is the like the foundation of a house. Bad foundation, bad house. Bad quarterback, bad offense. Bad offense, bad team.

*The Browns don’t even have an offensive coordinator right now, or at least someone to fill the job that Pep Hamilton had.

*The Browns have a left tackle in Joe Thomas who is headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and four other starters who might not be in their respective high schools’ halls of fame.

*The team’s offensive line coach, Hal Hunter, just got fired.

*The center, or right tackle or wherever he ends playing, if anywhere, Cam Erving, nearly got the quarterbacks killed this season.

*The Browns’ best wide receiver, Terrelle Pryor, might depart the team in free agency in the offseason.

*The Browns offense doesn’t even know what its identity should be.

*The Browns offense can’t score points. Look it up.

*The Browns offense can’t even move the ball consistently.

Other than all that, things are just fine and dandy – “just peachy, as Romeo Crennel used to say — with the Browns offense.

“The Browns offense isn’t as bad as you think it is?”

You’re right. It isn’t. It’s worse.
