OK, be honest, when the Browns trailed the Chicago Bears 17–7 halfway through the third quarter on Sunday at Cleveland Browns Stadium and their offense couldn’t get out of its own way, did you think they had even a small chance of winning?
I sure didn’t. And you probably didn’t, either. They appeared to be “as dead as a door nail,” as the narrator in “A Christmas Carol” says.
But this is a Browns season built on things that you have to scratch your head and wonder, “How did that just happen?” For the Browns came back with 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to win 20–17.
Another game, another instant classic.
This is a special season, as we all know. Or at least we should know. The Browns are all beat up, as evidenced by the fact they keep promoting guys from the practice squad who end up starting or playing significant roles in the game. Yet they continue to win. They do so because they fight like crazy and don’t give up. They are better than the sum of their parts. And that’s a compliment.
They are 9–5 and in the driver‘s seat to earn one of the top wildcard spots out of the AFC.
Just savor it. Enjoy it. Try to commit as much of it to memory as you can. This is the season that Browns fans will be talking about for years. And you are watching it play out before your very eyes.
These are the good old days right here. Don’t worry about how they did it, just enjoy the fact that they did it.
