Another Browns Coaching Search, Another Trip Through Groundhog Day

This Post is Brought to you by our friends at Havokk CoffeeFor those that run towards the chaos – not from it

I just spent a half-hour watching a friend’s 3-year-old son sit on the floor and play with some plastic blocks.

He would work really hard building on a base, carefully stacking the sections one of top of the other. Eventually, he would make a mistake, causing the blocks to begin to wobble and then cave in. His design plan was flawed.

Again and again and again, it happened. But he never got flustered with it. He just kept trying to make it work.

In a way, I thought I was watching the Browns head-coaching searches over the last quarter-century. They work and work and work to find their guy, and when they do, they hire him and he goes to work trying to build a team. But every time, the process crumbles and the Brownshave to start again. It is like the movie, “Groundhog Day,” in that the same thing keeps happening over and over and over. The Browns keep starting from scratch. They never truly get it done and operating effectively for any length of time.

And here they are again, looking for another head coach. Like my friend’s son, they can’t get discouraged by all the failures. They just have to keep working at it. Each time is a new chance to get it right.

There are all kinds of candidates out there. Some have been head coaches before, some have been only coordinatorsand some have just been position coaches. Some have a heavy flavor of defense in their backgrounds, while others have worked mostly on offense. Some even have a mix of both, which is good, I think, because it gives a coach a well-rounded look at a team.

What kind of coach would I like the Browns to find?

After all this time, I just want them to identify the right coach for this team in this current situation. I don’t really care what his background is, for I simplywant him to win games, and championships.

is that really too much to ask?

And so the search continues. Where and when will it end, nobody knows.
