It’s on for former Browns defensive end Myles Garrett and his new team, the Los Angeles Rams.

With the announcement by Aaron Donald that he has formally come out of retirement and rejoined the Rams after working out with them throughout training camp as a tryout player, they are the team to beat this season.  Everyone acknowledges it. 

And why not? They have the best end of this generation in Garrett and the best tackle of this generation in Donald. They have the dream team defense, and, with an offense that was already very strong and a top-flight quarterback in Matthew Stafford, plus one of the best head coaches in the game in Sean McVay,  the Rams are set up for greatness, which would be a Super Bowl championship.

But it won’t be easy, because the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks reside with the Rams in the NFC West, and so do the San Francisco 49ers.

Regardless, the Rams absolutely have to win it all. Anything less that that, even a one-point defeat on the last play of the game, wouldn’t be enough. It’s either all or nothing. That’s what happens when you build an all-star team.

Garrett was frustrated during his nearly decade-long career with the Browns, because he wanted to win and it simply wasn’t going happen there — not right now at heart. Yes, he had all the personal accolades in Cleveland, but didn’t have the one thing he wanted most, which is a Super Bowl championship.

He’s got a wonderful chance now to win a title., And if he doesn’t, then that’s going to take some shine off his star. The truly great ones are those who get the personal accomplishments and the team accomplishments as well. Garrett is never going to have a better opportunity to get that Lombardi trophy.

it will be fun, and oh, so interesting, to see how Garrett, Donald, Stafford, McVay and all the rest of the Rams react to the pressure. And it will be an intense pleasure.

Whatever happens, it will stay with them —  go a long way toward defining them and their career — 
for the rest of their lives.
