A way for Cleveland to be a leader once again

The idea of a domed stadium for the Browns, in Downtown Cleveland somewhere, anywhere, is a great one.

Anyone who has sat in Cleveland Stadium or FirstEnergy Stadium in December to watch a game will admit that, with the wind whipping off Lake Erie as the snow falls, it was one of the coldest experiences of their lives.

People back in the day were tougher – perhaps you’ve heard of the Greatest Generation, World War II and the Great Depression (only one of those “greats” were actually so in a positive way)? – and as such they didn’t mind the cold as much. There were no domes, so they didn’t know any better.

But people now are less apt to do that. They want to be warm and comfortable. They don’t want to lose feeling in their hands and feet.

Other Midwest cities such as Detroit, Indianapolis and Minneapolis have domes and get full use out of them to also host other events and bring dollars and notoriety to those areas.

Why do the people of Cleveland have to sit back, hands folded and watch those other people have all the fun and enjoy all the spoils. It’s time to get out of the dark ages and at least think about a dome – seriously.

It’s a great – there’s that word again – opportunity for Cleveland for once more be a leader and not a follower, just like the city was back when everybody was getting frozen at Browns games.

Pricey? You bet. But all things worth anything are.
