A LOOK INTO THE FUTURE

By STEVE KING
Don’t you wish you had a crystal ball?
If you did, then you could set it for this time next weekend, late Saturday afternoon or early evening, when the NFL will be over, or just about so, and see what the Browns did and how the team — and the outlook for it — has changed.
That’s what all of this draft stuff is about, getting better as a team. Clubs have to assume that the other three teams in their division improved themselves in the draft, and so they have to do the same to keep pace. There is no staying the same. If a club stays the same, then it has actually gotten worse. And the Browns can’t afford to get worse. They didn’t win the AFC North title and as such had to slip into the postseason as a wild card, As such, thry have plenty of room to go. They’ve not arrived nor have they won anything, so there is little time — or room, or reason — to look back. Last season has been over for a long while, and it’s time to focus totally on 2021.
That’s what Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was saying when he spoke with the media the other day.
“We lost our last game like 31 other teams, or at least the teams in the playoffs,” he said. “We look back at last year and try to put that into perspective. We and I need to understand that we have to get way better.
“As it pertains to last year and how we did last year, I don’t think it’s just apples to apples. This is going to be a different offseason. We have different players, and we have some players in and some players out. The 2021 season is definitely to stand on its own there.”
