Head coach Kyle Shanahan’s team crushed the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-7 in the season opener, and last Sunday night, it punished the Dallas Cowboys even worse, 42-10.
So, could the sky be the limit for the San Francisco 49ers when they play the Browns on Sunday at Cleveland Browns Stadium?
Perhaps, especially if starting quarterback Deshaun Watson’s bruised right shoulder keeps him from playing for the second straight week.
And if Shanahan gets the chance to really, really poured on the Browns, then I think he will, without any hesitation. He was really put off by the way he was treated here when, in his role as offensive coordinator, he was ordered by General Manager Ray Farmer and the other members of the Browns front office, all of whom didn’t have a clue as to what they were doing, to play rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel so the club could get some value out of its first-round NFL Draft pick. It was, of course, an unmitigated disaster, and Shanahan felt humiliated, betrayed, strongarmed and disrespected.
Those same owners, Jimmy and Dee Haslam, are still here, and I could see him wanting to embarrass them and the team in front of the home fans.
Just sayin’.
