It’s fresh legs vs. rust.
That the situation involving Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III, who, as expected, is on the verge of being named the starter for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals at FirstEnergy Stadium.
RG3 has plenty of energy stored up after being sidelined since the season opener on Sept. 11 because of a shoulder injury. That – the energy, not the injury – is a great advantage at this time of year. With just four weeks left, everybody is banged up. Even the healthy guys are hurting a lttle. As such, they’ve slowed down. They are less than what they were at the start of the year.
But now the down side. RG3 hasn’t played competitively since Sept. 11 — and not very long that day. And he didn’t play a whole lot in the preseason, either, and not at all in 2015. So he hasn’t exactly been overworked.
At the same time, everybody else has been playing and honing their skills.
With that, then, RG3 is way ahead in one aspect, and way behind in the other.
But there is still time between now and Sunday to get him ready.
Nothing is perfect with these Browns, which is why Jackson will roll the dice and start him.
